A new year

Obviously, my New Year's resolution to make more time for writing is not starting off so well. But here I am nevertheless. It is January 13th and I guess it's about time for some effort on that front.

Much has happened in the past month with the fun and excitement surrounding Christmas. We took a much-needed holiday to northern BC to visit family for 10 days. We actually treated it like a holiday this year and spent our time relaxing and enjoying the 5 to 2 adult to kid ratio at my in-laws' house. It was really a peaceful and enjoyable time.

We got home just in time for some New Year's fun with a couple of friends and then some serious celebrating for our oldest boy's 3rd birthday. Although it seems obvious to actually say it, I can't believe he's 3 already. Wow.

David has changed a lot in the past year and he really is making the leap from toddler to pre-schooler now. He has grown a lot both in size and ability and amazes us every day with the things he says and the concepts he is beginning to grasp.

I feel very blessed to spend each day with such a happy, bright and friendly boy.

A few of his 3-year-old pursuits and sayings:

• loves preschool and other kid-centred activities
• has just started swimming lessons for the first time (not quite ready for un-parented but is enjoying water time with mom and dad)
• really enjoys make-believe play
• is getting pretty adept at building things with lego
• loves his brother and is starting to share and play with him a lot (makes mommy very happy!)
• still working on potty training and we know he'll get the hang of it soon
• is still very verbal and told us at the table the other night that he didn't want to eat his perogies because they were "doomed". :)
• during an argument recently, he informed me that he was not being "oppositional"... we had to laugh at that one!
• still really loves music and surprises me often by how quickly he remembers the tune and words to songs
• is quite nervous around dogs (and the cute bunny that lives in his preschool class)
• is a very social, extroverted boy who loves a party
• still enjoys a long nap in the afternoons and needs quite a bit of sleep so he can maintain his constant waking energy!
• is very affectionate and loves hugs and cuddles with his family

Yes - he makes us very happy and we look forward with great anticipation to the many things he will learn this year.

Off to productive house-hold tasks... I will try to be more regular at this blogging thing!
